Task Force

A focused effort to collect data required for a specific project.

Task forces help Boards focus public input and attention to a specific issue. Project oriented task forces provide an opportunity for residents to voice their opinion on a specific issue they care about. The task force’s recommendations and ideas can be incorporated in long term plans.

For example, Brooklyn Community Board 7 created a special task force related to the 4th Avenue safety study. Manhattan Community Board 3 created a waterfront task force, which later became the waterfront subcommittee. Many of the ideas brought up through the task force, have been incorporated in a broad waterfront plan along the East River.
